For Voice and Piano. This is a collection of 13 songs based on the (humorous--according to Wikipedia!) poetry of the famous German poet Christian Morgenstern (Galgenlieder, 1905). That Wikipedia entry does not mention this collection in their list of musical versions of Morgenstern's poetry. I could not find an online biography of Ernest Vietor, though one source reports that he was active from 1905-1930. A note on the last page of this collection indicates that the songs may have been written and/or published on December 13, 1913 in New York. There is no listed publisher. A quotation from Friedrich Nietzsche on the front page may indicate the tone of the pieces: (translated) "In every real man there is hidden a child, that wants to play." No Table of Contents. The titles are: Bundeslied der Galgenbrüder; Galgenbruders Lied an Sophie, die Henkersmaid; Nein!; Der Rabe Ralf; Der Lattenzaun; Der Schaukelstuhl auf der verlassenen Terrasse; Mondendinge; Traum der Magd (with apologies to Dr. Richard Strauss); Geiß und Schleiche; Das Weiblein mit der Kunkel; Das aesthetische Wiesel; KM 21; and Die zwei Wurzeln. Rare. 41 pages.
